Capitalism has done more to cut extreme poverty, hunger,
violence and homelessness globally in the last 200 years than anything we’ve
even fathomed could in all of prior human history. It was completely
revolutionary and one of the greatest human inventions creating a more free and
meaningful existence for more people than any system had. Let’s not lose track
of that context and make the wrong thing the villain here.That said AOC is
barely a socialist. It’s fine to have discussions about social safety nets and
public policy to further raise up the poor. You can do things like have the
freedom to do business as you please but also have caps on the wealth you can
accumulate relative to your lowest earning employees so we don’t get these
obscene disparities, etc. I’m all for that personally.
